Looking Back.....
The Elmanash Kennel was founded in 1979 with the purchase of my first pedigree Whippet,
a silver fawn bitch puppy called Savilepark Sophistikate. Although newcomers to the dog show
scene, we were very successful with her, winning Res. Best in Show on her first outing at 7
months of age, and going on to win Challenge Certificates and Reserves. She is the grand dam
of CH Allgarth Principal and his brother Allgarth Premier, 2 CC’s and a string of reserves!
She was quickly joined by our foundation bitch, Whitbarrow Hasty Lady, not a glamorous bitch
but beautifully bred with lines that even then were becoming harder to obtain.
From Whitbarrow Hasty Lady we bred our first litter, producing CH. Elmanash Signorinetta.
We repeated this mating, retaining Elmanash Silviana. Many winners trace back to this bitch including Elmanash
Camellia of Allgarth who came back to us after a very successful start with the late Frank Moore,
cut short by the sudden loss of this experienced and knowledgeable showman, and in more recent
times Johnson’s Sylvana of Denimonde, also expertly campaigned by Debbie Ormond. The prolific
winner CH Millwold Gold Dust to Exhurst is also a descendant of Whitbarrow Hasty Lady. We were
fortunate to have several Championship show judges interested in our stock, thus Elmanash
features in the pedigrees of winners both here and overseas.
Showing took a slight backseat with the arrival of my children, but I always retained my original bitch lines. This policy
enabled me to return to producing traditional, quality Whippets when the opportunity arose.
Producing stock of quality and correctness with the ability to compete at the highest level
is of paramount importance here at the Elmanash kennels, equalled only by the pleasure of
sharing our daily lives with these wonderful hounds.
